Colloquium Theme

CIGRE 2025 Osaka Colloquium of CIGRE Study Committee B5 (Protection and Automation) will be held based on the three preferential subjects of "IEC 61850 based Interoperability of IEDs of different manufacturers and technologies integrated in one PACS", "PACS Life Cycle Performance and Longevity" and "Sharing of best practices on revised principles enabled by modern protection IEDs".
For a week, there will be a tutorial and general discussion sessions with three special reporters. Social programs including receptions, technical tours and companion tours are also planned to contribute to international communication. Through this Colloquium, we hope to have opportunities to promote information exchange and academic interaction with every participant and to contribute to the development of power technology around the world.

Venue

Osaka is an attractive and traditional city in Japan, located about 400km west of Tokyo. With a population of approximately 2.7 million as of 2022, it is the largest city on the Kansai region which is the second-largest metropolitan area after Tokyo. In Osaka, many famous companies and research institutes that boast the world’s highest level of technology are integrated, and there is also a variety of abundant cultural and tourism resources such as Osaka Castle, Universal Studios, etc.
In the spotlight around the world, "Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai" whose theme is "Designing Future Society for Our Lives" will also be held on the artificial island "Yumeshima" in Osaka Bay during the Colloquium.
The venue for the Colloquium is "Osaka International Convention Center" which is located about 15 minutes by city bus from Osaka station and 60 minutes from Kansai International Airport to the Osaka Station by limousine bus.

IEC 61850 based Interoperability of IEDs of different manufacturers and technologies integrated in one PACS
  • Interoperability experience feedback including interfacing of virtualised functions
  • Interoperability of engineering tools, test tools and settings
  • Standardisation and unification of PACS including User Profiles, Product Standards and Basic Applications Profiles
PACS Life Cycle Performance and Longevity
  • Reliability of PACS and its components - Design and experience feedback
  • Redundancy and lifetime expectations in digital Protection Automation and Control Systems
  • Flexibility and updating of components during PACS lifetime
Sharing of best practices on revised principles enabled by modern protection IEDs
  • Settings and functional principles that could be updated or upgraded thanks to the increased performance and flexibility of moderns IEDs
  • Improvement in maintenance policies and maintenance procedures
  • Benefits resulting from increased functional integration capabilities

Registration

Registration for the Osaka Colloquium will be available from January 2025. We recommend RIHGA Royal Hotel Osaka, which is the closest hotel to the convention center. Relevant information to reserve the hotel will be available at Accommodation page.

Submission of synopses and papers

Participants wishing to present and publish papers should submit synopses (500 words minimum is a good option) by following instructions on this page. Instruction is available. A synopsis and paper template are also available. All synopses, papers and presentations must be in English.
The Colloquium is being prepared for face-to-face meetings. Please note that author(s) will have to register later and come to Osaka to present.
